Catherine’s Quest Reboot

After a couple months on hiatus, our Catherine’s Quest project is officially launching again October 1st!

Catherine’s Quest is a top-down action role-playing game with retro inspired gameplay and modern hand-painted graphics and animation.

You awaken in a strange land of dungeons and drag queens where you can
only carry one item at a time. Find the key to rescue the kidnapped Queen
and stick around as the story unfolds…

Project Goals and Scope

Catherine’s Quest is intended to be a small, fun project for intermediate-level and professional developers and artists to practice working in a distributed team setting and practice new skills in a low-pressure environment.

This project does not require any commitment to participate. If you join the team and only draw one stick figure, it still helps you practice skills and may be inspiration for another artist on team! You do not need to purchase anything, own any particular commercial software, or subscribe to any paid websites to work on the team.

This project is a non-paid project. It is open source under the MIT license. This means anyone will be able to freely reuse and remix our creation.

Our target platform is desktop PCs running Windows, Mac, or Linux.

Technical

On the technical side of things, we are using the open-source Godot game engine. Programming is mostly done using the GDScript programming language, which is similar to Python. We are using git for version control (don’t worry if you don’t know what that means yet!)

Visual artists working on the project are free to use any application for which they have an appropriate license and is capable of creating the aesthetic we are going for. There is a slight preference for using Clip Studio Paint and one of our project contributors has put together a free brush pack for Clip Studio Paint that can help achieve the hand-painted look we are going for. Using Photoshop, Corel Painter, Krita, Gimp, Procreate or similar program is perfectly ok.

Your level and type of involvement is totally up to you. Here are some things you can do to help support this project:
